2025's April spotlight is Dr. Sinjini Biswas! What they would like to know about the community is: What do you think will be the next biggest change in the practice of interventional cardiology? Reply here

Tell us about yourself.

I am an interventional cardiologist working at Royal Melbourne Hospital, in Melbourne, Australia. I completed my physician and cardiology training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, before completing a PhD at Monash University, supported by scholarships from the National Heart Foundation and NHMRC. I also did my initial interventional cardiology fellowship at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, before completing 2 further fellowships in TAVI and CTO/CHIP PCI at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Bristol Royal Infirmary respectively, in the UK. I then worked as a consultant interventional cardiologist at the Bristol Royal Infirmary for 2 years, before returning home to Melbourne. I have a particular interest in intracoronary imaging and complex coronary intervention, and am also a TAVI implanter.

What are you most passionate about?

I love travelling! I often try to use my conference trips to see different parts of the world. I love seeing new places and trying new cuisines. If I wasn't a cardiologist, I would love to have been a travel journalist.

What would you like your colleagues to know about you?

As much as I whinge about waking up at 2am for a STEMI, there is nothing more satisfying professionally than primary PCI. We are fortunate to have so many tools now at our disposal to improve PCI outcomes such as intracoronary imaging, and I am passionate about increasing access to these tools, and teaching fellows how to use intracoronary imaging appropriately.
