Tell us about yourself.

"Dr. Gurumurthy 'Guru' Hiremath completed his pediatric cardiology training and a fourth year of interventional training at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Hiremath is currently the director of the pediatric cardiac catheterization laboratories and cardiopulmonary exercise testing at the University of Minnesota's Masonic Children's Hospital. He is also the interim division director for pediatric cardiology, an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota, and the inaugural holder of the Forrest H. Adams Chair in Pediatric Cardiovascular Health."

What are you most passionate about?

I'm most passionate about my family. Nothing brings me more joy and makes me smile more than spending time with my two boys. We love to get outside and explore together, whether it's at the park or just in our own backyard. When I can find some time for myself, I love to play recreational tennis. It's a great way for me to stay active and clear my head.

What would you like your colleagues to know about you?

My research interests are focused on invasive hemodynamic evaluation and understanding the hemodynamic effects of transcatheter interventions. I have a particular interest in intracardiac pressure-volume (PV) loops and actively use them to understand the physiological impact of interventions such as coarctation stenting and pulmonary artery stenosis. I have several active research grants and have authored several publications and book chapters. I am an active member of the interventional cardiology societies with active roles in the SCAI's Congenital Heart Disease Council, the Pediatric Interventional Cardiology Early Career Society (PICES), Pediatric Interventional Cardiology Society (PICS), and the Pediatric Interventional Cardiology CPT coding group. I am an associate editor for JSCAI's Pearls in Hemodynamics section. I served as the Research Vice-President of PICES (Pediatric Interventional Cardiology Early Career Society) from 2018-2020, wherein I planned, coordinated, and led several multicenter research projects. I am actively involved in developing new intracardiac devices in the industry and participate in several national device trials and registries. I have won several awards, including the 'Innovation in Clinical Practice Award' and the 'Outstanding Clinical Care Award' from the University of Minnesota, for developing innovative treatments and industry partnerships to help patient care. I am a founding editor for the Pediatric Interventional Cardiology Society's educational website, Tips and Tricks for Congenital Interventional Cardiologists.
