Tell us about yourself.

I am the Chief of the Piedmont Heart Institute and Cardiovascular Service Line; Director, Interventional Cardiology of the Piedmont Heart Institute; and Chief Scientific Officer for Piedmont Healthcare in Atlanta, Georgia. I specialize in cardiovascular disease, peripheral arterial disease and interventional cardiology. As leader of the Heart Institute, my areas of focus include innovation and research, enhancing quality of care, provider education and promotion of diversity in healthcare delivery.

A graduate of Duke University School of Medicine, I completed my internship and residency at The John Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Following my residency, I completed my general and interventional cardiology fellowship at Duke University where I joined the faculty as the John B. Simpson Assistant Professor of Interventional Cardiology and Genomic Sciences.

I am the former Director of Interventional Cardiology Research at the Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, California. Before joining the Scripps faculty, I also served as Chief Medical Officer for the Cordis Corporation, a Johnson & Johnson Company. I also served as a Medical Officer for the Center for Devices and Radiological Health for the United States Food and Drug Administration. Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and its subspecialty Board of Cardiovascular Disease and Board of Interventional Cardiology, I have held national and international leadership roles in clinical trials in cardiovascular disease and have participated in national and international program committees in cardiology. I have authored and coauthored more than 450 studies, book chapters and scientific reviews, and have delivered more than 800 lectures, both nationally and internationally, on a variety of issues related to both interventional and general cardiology. I have presented 12 late-breaking clinical trials in cardiovascular medicine at numerous international scientific programs.

I have been consecutively voted as one of Atlanta's Top Doctors by Atlanta Magazine from 2011 to 2024 and peer-nominated in the top 1% of cardiologists by U.S News and World Report. I was also recently elected as a Master Fellow by the Society of Coronary Angiography and Interventions.

What are you most passionate about?

Family (including pets) are a priority, along with spending time with friends. My family and I enjoy alpine mountaineering, surfing and competitive motor racing.

What would you like your colleagues to know about you?

I don't ask any more from others than I ask of myself.
