Tell us about yourself.

I am currently the Chief of Vascular Medicine and program director for the interventional cardiology and vascular medicine fellowships at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, MA (greater Boston area). My days are balanced between coronary and vascular intervention, reading in the vascular lab, doing procedures in vein clinic, and teaching fellows. I am originally from Canada and did the early part of my cardiology and interventional training at McMaster University. I had always had an interest in vascular medicine and intervention; and one day a spontaneous elevator conversation led to an offer to train in advanced vascular and endovascular medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and later Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. And I haven't looked back.

What are you most passionate about?

I am passionate about education - not just medical, but more recently leadership skills training. I am an avid concert goer and novice blues rock guitar player. I enjoy spending time with my family including wife and two sons (who constantly make fun of me for my incomplete knowledge of the NFL, being Canadian).

What would you like your colleagues to know about you?

Several years ago one of my mentors challenged me to step outside my comfort zone and teach a session in her leadership course. She dared me to tackle the concept of Design Thinking. This was the first time that I have given a talk without any medical jargon, or clinical trials. It was terrifying and exhilarating! I have now given this talk twice and am currently involved in helping to incorporate Design Thinking into our new medical school curriculum.
